Dog-friendly Lizard House

Lizard House

New for 2024 - integrated ceiling hoist

Lizard House is a spacious, dog-friendly holiday home with a hot tub, set up above Trevassack Lake and watersports centre in south west Cornwall – in other words, it is the ideal holiday destination for everyone! All ages and abilities are welcome here, with specialist staff skilled in helping anyone enjoy all the facilities available at the lake. This modern, accessible accommodation sleeps up to eight people plus the most important family member, your dog. And now we’ve integrated a Guldmann ceiling hoist in the twin room to take you from bed to your en suite bathroom.

Walkthrough

Your holiday home is found tucked away above Trevassack Lake; drive down to the waterfront and through the heart of the activity area then up around to Lizard House and Clare Milne House, to the drop off area – you can park one car in the designated space, but all other vehicles stay in the main car park please. First one over the threshold will be wowed by the open plan living-room as the dog runs around sniffing everything in glee.

You may decide to dump the luggage in the handy laundry/store room to deal with later before entering the main house where you’ll find a double height vaulted ceiling and wide sliding doors leading out to the large deck complete with the ultimate luxury – your own hot tub. But first, decide who sleeps where.

Bedroom 1 is a sizeable en suite room where you can choose to have your comfortable beds set up as twin or an extra large double, for your comfort and convenience. There is also the option of an electric profiling bed if required, and an electric ceiling hoist has been integrated ready for 2024, thanks to grant funding from Duchy Health.

Bedroom 2 adjoins, with similar flexibility in choosing a twin or double bed configuration (it’s also ideal for carers to be close by if needed). Bedroom 3, another ‘zip and link’ bed option, is found on the other side of the living-room and is next to the separate wet-room. Two people can choose to sleep on the sofa bed in the living-room and wake up bathed in morning sunlight through that glass wall – what a way to start the day! You may be the first to put the coffee on in the superbly equipped kitchen area, ready to throw open the doors for al fresco supping on your deck in the Cornish morning air.

Lizard House features underfloor heating throughout, ensuring cosy toes, but slightly less adaptations (no variable height kitchen) than the other two houses – however the architect designed the property with disabled-friendly holidays in mind with extra wide doorways and plenty of space around the furniture for wheelchair users. Plus with the brand new ceiling hoist, anyone and everyone can enjoy a holiday with family and friends, including the dog!

Setting

Lizard House has a lovely setting tucked away from the buzz of waterfront activity, an oasis of calm to relax after a non-stop day on the lake. It’s only a stone’s throw away from the Learning Centre and shoreline, via the open-air lift (great for tired little legs or the less mobile), so not far to nip back for forgotten goggles and whatnot. The fenced garden means little ones and four-legged friends are safe to wander around the holiday home freely, discovering the wildlife and nature of the surrounding vegetation. Those who got up early to make the coffee can saunter down to the water on swim days (see CST Experiences for details) before the water fills with all manner of boats and floats.

Enjoy the activities, grab a bite in the café and make your way home to Lizard House for a self-catering feast before sinking into the hot tub and doing a spot of stargazing. This is how the best disabled-friendly holidays are meant to be.

History

Lizard House, along with the Learning Centre and site infrastructure, was made possible in part by the generosity of the Coastal Communities Fund so it will come as no surprise that we named it after the peninsula that Trevassack Holidays is found on, surrounded as it is on three sides by many miles of coast and fishing communities. The CCF encourages the economic development of UK coastal communities by giving funding to create sustainable economic growth and jobs and we are grateful to have been awarded the grant.

The Lizard peninsula is the most southerly area of mainland England and no, it’s not named after any reptiles – the word Lizard come from the old Cornish ‘Lis-ardh’ which means fortress. Lizard House is much more homely and welcoming than that, though, and is tantamount to the nature of the place it resides.
