Clare Milne House accessibile cottage in Cornwall

Clare Milne House

Clare Milne House is a perfectly appointed holiday home for up to six people, set in the grounds of a large lake in south west Cornwall. Trevassack Lake is home to a watersports centre where all the family can enjoy an active holiday with a lift available from the waterside to your accommodation.

The accommodation is welcoming for all ages and abilities, families and friends plus able to function as a disabled-friendly holiday home with plenty of mobility aids and high-tech equipment available for those that need or want it.

Walkthrough

This is a brand new holiday home with gorgeous glimpses of the lake glistening below from its perch above the action. You have a private parking space all to yourself so jump out of the car on arrival and start surveying the scenery. From your central position in the grounds, you can look out over the shrubbery to the joyful hub of activity by the lake and beyond but first, let’s get inside.

Ignore the door to the handy laundry/store room for now and cross the threshold to the main living space, a glorious room with a high vaulted ceiling and a wall of glass that lets in the light, and lets you out onto your huge deck, complete with hot tub. The living-room is spacious and well-appointed, with a fully equipped kitchen area of varying heights making it more accessible for anyone wanting to whip up a feast. But we’ll start with the kettle for a post-journey cup of tea before choosing who sleeps where.

Bedroom 1 is at the far end and has the flexibility of either luxury twin beds or a superking-sized double bed plus its own spacious en suite, just like your own hotel room. The option is also there for an electric profiling bed if you are less mobile, and a fully integrated electric ceiling hoist can be provided to move you to the bathroom and back again with ease.

Right next door, bedroom 2 also has the luxury of ‘zip and link’ (double or twin) beds for comfort and flexibility (plus is well-placed as a potential ‘carer’s room’ to be close at hand during the night).

Over the other side of the living-room is Bedroom 3 with its view out onto the front deck, and the separate wet-room.

Thankfully all the rooms feature underfloor heating, so you’ll never have to feel cold under a post-shower foot.

The architect who designed this house thought of every detail and made sure to include extra wide doorways and plenty of room around the furniture to allow for maximum movement, including those large sliding doors in the sitting-area that lead out to your private deck for soaking in the hot tub under the stars.

Setting

Travel down past Bradbury House and your first view of our magnificent lake, through the heart of the activity area and up around to your spot. Clare Milne House is perfectly placed above the lake, so you still feel a part of the action whilst maintaining a degree of privacy. It’s only a short walk to the shore (even shorter via the open-air lift, great for tired little legs or the less mobile), where all manner of watersports and fun-filled activities take place, starting as early as 6am when wild swimming takes place regularly throughout the summer and yes, even the winter (from 8am).

Sit up on high and take supper in the Cornish countryside or pop down to the on-site café for a little lunch, spend all day in the water and continue soaking in your hot tub come evening. Wave to walkers and feel the happy vibe of this fun and friendly Cornish holiday hub.

History

You might recognise the name of this house and associate it with a certain honey-loving pooh bear – you’d be right in thinking there is a connection. Clare Milne was the granddaughter of A.A Milne and was blessed with a significant sum of money from the sale of his book royalties. Having been born with Cerebral Palsy, some of the money helped to buy her a home but the rest was used to create a charity to help other people with disabilities. The Clare Milne Trust made this particular property possible, and it is our honour to name it in the memory of Clare, so it can bring many others happiness as part of her legacy.
